About Megan

Where It All Began

Here’s a little about me and what led me on my journey with curls.

My mum went to boarding school, and because of that, she kept mine and my sister’s hair short — it was simply easier. She cut it herself, and at the time, that was just how things were done.

When I was old enough to take care of my own hair, I grew it longer — and that’s when my curls really started to come through.

A Lifetime of Experimenting

At the age of 13, I started experimenting with my hair and coloured it black. I’m naturally a dark blonde, so this was a big change — maybe even the beginning of my career in hairdressing.

Hair colour in the 80s was very different, and the damage to my curls was irreversible.

In 1992, I officially started my hairdressing career. Over the years, I tried it all — black to blonde, shaved head, extensions — but not once did I feel truly comfortable with my natural texture or colour.

Rediscovering Curls

I first heard about the CG Method from a client and went on to read Lorraine Massey’s book in the early 2000s. At the time, there were no professional products available here in New Zealand, and I didn’t have much success.

In 2018, my family moved from Auckland to the Waikato, and I found myself rebuilding my clientele from scratch.

Not long after, I lost my mum to Alzheimer’s. During that time, I made the decision to grow out my colour and embrace my natural greys. It was also when I rediscovered my curls and began researching the CG Method again — this time with a completely different perspective.

Finding My Passion

The curl community in New Zealand had grown, and everything seemed to align. That’s when I truly began my journey with curls.

I haven’t looked back since.

I’ve spent countless hours researching, learning, and refining my skills in caring for and nurturing textured hair. Every client who sits in my chair has taught me something new, and I’ve built relationships that continue well beyond the salon.

My Approach Today

My goal is to focus solely on textured hair and to help others understand and embrace their natural curls.

After more than 30 years in hairdressing, I can honestly say I’ve never felt more passionate about what I do.

I’m so excited to meet more curl friends and be part of your journey.
